Within the last 24 hours, Colchester United have twice confirmed they will look to sign more players in this transfer window.

Ex-manager Paul Lambert had previously said that the U’s would not venture into the market again this summertime.

However, during a statement on the official website concerning David Perkins` recent request for a move, the club said they have been actively looking for replacements, since losing midfield duo Dean Hammond to Southampton and Johnnie Jackson on a free to Notts County.

That search has become a priory following an injury to regular right back, Lee Beevers, at yesterday`s 2-1 loss to MK Dons, although United say they cannot hope to make more additions while without a full-time manager.

Caretaker boss, Joe Dunne, said yesterday: “It’s been a tough week – we’ve had the manager walking out on Tuesday, our captain Dean Hammond being sold, Johnnie Jackson leaving and a transfer request being handed in by David Perkins on Friday night.

I’m doing the job to the best of my ability but the candidates they are speaking to are of a very high standard.

Lee also had to come off with a dislocated shoulder so whoever the prospective new manager might be will have to have some players lined up to come in. We need to look at the squad size, we need one or two in urgently.”

Dont really think we need another RB. But we NEED at least one CM.

Well, I expect and hope the club will make John White come back from Southend as cover; CB, RB, LB and CM, in his time. Although he’s got the taste for first team-football so he might want to stay with them now.

Hopefully not – is good a cover due to his versatility. Up the U’s!
