Colchester United striker Scott Vernon has rejected the chance to join Carlisle United.

The 25-year-old was wanted by The Cumbrians as part of a deal which would see the U’s land goalkeeper Ben Williams. However, although Greg Abbott was keen on a deal, Vernon has dismissed Carlisle’s offer.

Abbott told the BBC: ‘Scott has decided that he wants to stay at Colchester at the moment.

Even though the ex-Blackpool front-runner does not appear to feature in U’s boss Paul Lambert’s plans for next season, he seems determined to stay and fight his way back.

‘He hadn’t initially asked for a transfer. He wants to stay and fight for his place,’ Abbott added.

With Abbott also setting a deadline of later today for the Williams transfer to go through it remains to be seen what will happen. After Vernon rejecting the deal, the U’s will be forced to largely increase their offer for Williams.

Stay tuned with Vital Colchester for the latest U’ transfer news and rumours.

Like the spirit! Good on you… there’s quite a high chance he’ll get games at the moment because we’ve got Platt, Gilly and Guy only…

Well, would love him to score 20 goals and get us up. Think he could do well if given a good chance and playing with the right players around him…
