The experienced John Ward is set to become Aidy Boothroyd’s right-hand man at Colchester United.

Ward, 58, has currently been in an assistant manager’s role with Stockport County, but now joins the U’s in a similar position.

‘I’m looking forward to getting started with the game at Southampton and then getting out on the training ground again next week,’ the former Carlisle United and Cheltenham Town chief revealed to the club’s official website.

And Ward described the ‘easy’ decision which faced him when signing on, he added: ‘There is such a positive vibe about the team and the club and the ambition in both the Chairman and Aidy was evident from the off – that rubbed off on me straight away and it was an easy decision to come aboard.’

He’ll know Williams and Hackney then. What do you make of this one, folks?

  • StevieG Col U says:

Well – suppose he provides the experience, 20 years older than Aidy, that he lacks…

  • Matt_Us says:

True. We’ve had the bigger names – e.g. Adams and Symons – before and they were not so good. So this one should be a good change from that!

You lucky devils. Left us because we hadn’t paid him for 6 weeks. Or so I hear. He made a real difference to County is the short time he was with us.
