Former Colchester United and Leyton Orient boss Geraint Williams has distanced himself from the possibility of a surprise return to the U`s.
He took on the job from Charlton manager, Phil Parkinson, following Colchester’s compelling rise from League One in 2006, which lead to Parkinson quitting for Hull City.
Speculation has seen the affable Welshman touted as a possible successor this time to now Coventry manager Aidy Boothroyd, who recently left the Essex side after just nine months in change.
Williams, however, has called it ‘unlikely‘ that he would enter into a second spell. The one-time Ipswich player was in charge for a combined total of 111 games at Colchester, over 26 months.
He will always be regarded with some affection for his role in the club`s mid-2000 spell as challengers at Championship level and says he remains good friends with United`s Chairman and owner, Robbie Cowling.
But talking to Sky Sports in a report yesterday, he was typically composed: “Robbie and I still socialise and talk often, but they say never go back and it would be very difficult for me to return there.”
Williams was sacked following a poor start to the 2008/9 season and replaced by the ambitious Norwich manager, Paul Lambert and finds himself unemployed again following his depature from Orient towards the end of this season.
