Kit Symons today joined the exciting race to replace Paul Lambert as Colchester manager.

He was the only official name to join Joe Dunne, Julian Dicks and Paul Buckle as nameable candidates for the U`s job.

He said he feels a special connection with the club and wants to get back into the game after a long spell out.

This site also recorded mention of former Reading man, Steve Coppell, who is currently unemployed.

Colchester also revealed a rather mystifying link with a Middle Eastern manager, according to Chief Executive, Steve Bradshaw – who happily they won`t be interviewing. This is League One, after all, not Manchester City, mark two!

He told Dream 100 FM: “We`ve had some fantastic applications already, over thirty of them. Some of them are absolutely brilliant, from literarily world-renowned people.

“Other ones are more speculative – we had a guy who said he`d coached in the Middle East and knew a sheik who might want to invest in the club; we probably won`t be interviewing him.

“The truth of the matter is that we will longlist as a board on Monday and will then speak informally to all those guys that we can speak to and then we will shortlist.

“We will probably interview the end of next week or early the following week, with a view to an immediate start.

“We want to do it right, we want to get the right person and we want to repay the fans` faith in us
.”

No fresh names have ruled themselves out, at the end of search-day three, meaning Teddy Sheringham is the only official candidate to have rejected the role.
