Colchester United`s Luke Guttridge is hoping to force his way in to the starting XI as an automatic choice after describing the start to his career in blue and white as “difficult” in a copy of this week`s Evening Gazette.

Guttridge, 25, has vented his frustration at having to cope with reserve games as his weekly bread-and-butter football, explaining how he feels his preferences at reserve level merit more recognition when it comes to Championship matches.

“It’s been difficult for me,” said the former Southend man, who played alongside long-term absentee Kevin Watson in the most recent reserve game against Norwich.

“All you can do is get your head down and work hard,’ he said.

“I try and do well in the reserves and try and put that forward to the manager,” added Guttridge.

“But it’s the same for anyone in that position and you just have to wait for your chance and hope it comes along.”
