Colchester United pair, Steven Gillespie and Johnnie Jackson are both nearing fitness and are ready to resume training.

The players missed Tuesday night`s game against Tranmere, but striker Gillespie will start training again at the weekend as the U`s prepare to face League One Walsall.

Midfielder Johnnie Jackson`s injury news is also positive, although the former Tottenham man is still two weeks away from touching a ball.

He told today`s East Anglian Daily Times: “I can still keep myself fit, which is good, but I can’t really join in the contact stuff yet. I think it will be another two weeks.

“Apparently, the shoulder almost popped out. It’s very frustrating, but hopefully I’ll be back soon.”

On the Gillespie news, Paul Lambert said on the official site today that keeping the forward fit between now and season`s end would be “like a new signing.”

Why can’t Gilly stop getting injured????? When he came on against Cheltenham and scored he looked top-quality, but than two minutes into the next game he picks up another injury!

Even the goal I saw him score against Ipswich was amazing.. the U’s would be much better off if he’d be fit and scoring!
