Young and clubless keeper Carl Pentney has joined Colchester United on a non-contract basis as cover for injured number one, Ben Williams.

The U`s already tried former Norwich, Ipswich and Aston Villa stopper, Andy Marshall, earlier this summer but he moved on after a brief spell.

Essex-born Pentney is currently a free agent and should will grace the bench against Exeter City on Saturday as Mark Cousins prepares to take over from Williams as temporary first-choice.

Carl was happy to come and sit on the bench and provide cover in that time. He has been training with the lads for a week or so and will give us back-up,” said manager John Ward on the former Leicester City player.
