Colchester United supporters await an apparently imminent statement on Nolberto Solano`s arrival from Peru after the former Aston Villa and Newcastle United player told press there he is joining the club.

Over the past 48 hours, Solano quotes coming from the papers in his homeland see the player talk of a deal about to be finalised.

I`m going for six months to play for Colchester United. Talks are already at an advanced stage and I’m travelling to complete the deal,‘ Solano is quoted as saying. His comments have been repeated in Monday`s EADT but the U`s have yet to confirm this.

After the FA Cup weekend`s drubbing against Preston, the official word was that the 35-year-old still had to undergo a final trail before U’s boss Aidy Boothroyd decides to seal the transfer.

It’s a lovely opportunity at 35 years of age to still be considered. My plan is to end my (playing) career as a coach and look for work there (in England). If I can play another year, so much the better.

Boothroyd is a fan of Solano`s work-ethic and renowned potency from set plays while the man himself added that he also wants to return for personal reasons.
