Colchester United are continuing their extensive search for another striker, with boss Paul Lambert looking for an experienced finisher.

So far the U’s have bolstered their attacking options by signing relatively unproven young Hamilton Accies forward Joel Thomas, but an older goal-getter still tops Lambert’s wish-list.

Numerous players, from up and down the country, have been linked with the Weston Homes Community Stadium so far this summer. However, deals for any perspective striker have not come to fruition.

Lambert, a former Celtic great, told The Daily Gazette: : ‘We need someone with some experience. Joel Thomas is a young player who will develop.

‘We will see what is available but you need a bit of luck to get players in.’

The latest name to be linked is ex-U’s man Kevin Lisbie, now at Ipswich Town, click here.

And Lambert, who refused to rule anything out, acknowledged the speculation.

He added: ‘I think it`s because he used to play for Colchester United – I think that`s what people are saying.’

So who do YOU think the U’s should turn their attention to?

Is anyone else a little concerned about the new season? we sign a 36 year old and transfer list the player of year from 2 seasons ago and don’t even include him in a pre-season friendly squad. Im assuming the likes of White, Guy and Lockwood turned out with the under 18s against Clacton!!

Well, seems a little odd I must admit but Lambert’s has got my full support at the moment (well, nearly all!) If things aren’t going right next season then think he could be on his way…

He’s building a crackin squad which will work hard for each other as a team- the commitment he’s inspiriing in the players is great but i dont think its league winning (not yet anyway). if we can find an out and out goalscorer- who’ll sign on the line- i think our chances of promotion will be done a huge favour- without that role fulfilled… who knows

  • StevieG Col U says:

Yep, to be a real force next season, we definatly need to bring in a 20-goal aseason striker.

Phil Ifill played for MK Dons last night on trial

We should sign Billy Sharp would cost about 500K but a good buy 20 + goals defo
